Proud to support apprenticeships

Lucite International (LI) remains committed to investing in apprentices and has an excellent track record in sponsoring and training young people.  Currently the Cassel site is supporting 23 apprenticeships.

“We see Apprenticeships and the recruitment of graduates and others with the right mix of skills, competence and experience as fundamentally important to the success of our business going forward” said Faith Hambley, Training and Development Officer at Cassel site in Billingham.

LI has also taken the lead amongst local employers in re-training ex-Armed Forces personnel with transferable skills similar to those used in the process industries.

The commitment and discipline of ex forces personnel makes them in particularly high demand for employers and LI’s methacrylates production site at Cassel has recently recruited five ex forces staff.  Two of the recruits were sponsored by LI though two years of training.  Steve Lawther was one of them and says “After spending 24 years in the Armed Forces I wanted to move into another long-term career that is diverse and challenging.  I’ve found the apprenticeship experience with Lucite International very positive”.

Colin Stainsby, Shift Manager, sees real benefit in having ex Forces mature apprentices as part of Cassel’s workforce. “They are aware of the importance of having systems to ensure safe working practices are followed which is exactly what we require in the chemical industry.”

LI has just completed a sponsorship selection event at the Cassel site for the 2013 Chemical Technician Programme which starts in September.
